I LOVE books and have been an avid reader and writer since childhood. I have never hired editors for my Bismillah Bees books and went onto win multiple awards alhamdulillah.
Why edit for others?
I have a great gut-instinct, an eye for detail and I have invested in learning about creative writing over the past few decades. I want to use my skills, experience and passion to help authors recognise their strengths and improve where they can.
If your writing is amazing, I will tell you! If I think there is scope to make it better, I will give direct suggestions to improve the story, wording, pacing etc. You are free to use any suggestions I make (word-for-word) if you like - consider it my gift to you and your book. There is no need to credit me as a co-writer. I feel truly blessed to be a part of your book's impact on the ummah and beyond.

I had been looking for editors who can help me fine-tune my manuscript but I had difficulty doing so.
Alhamdulillah, I chanced upon Dreams and Duas through Instagram.
There are 4 types of editing that will help your book:
Developmental editing
Structural editing
Copyediting
Proofreading
I provide a combination of developmental and structural editing with some copyediting too.
I offer a combination of developmental editing, structural editing and some copyediting.
This is what I do:
I create a google document with your file and read your work in 'suggestion' mode.
I provide feedback and suggestions in the comments section.
I highlight the parts I love! This benefits you because it boosts your confidence as a writer (especially if you are having doubts or are writing for the first time). You can ‘see’ where your strengths lie and to what standard the rest of the book should be aiming for.
I reorganise or cut some of your words, and rewrite any passages I believe can be improved. You do not need to credit me as a co-writer for this service. It is my gift to you and your book.
All of my edits are explained in the comments section for you to understand my decisions. Ultimately, it's you who makes the final choices on what to keep and what to disregard.
You will then receive an email with a review of your book, extra tips or things to consider that are not mentioned in the google document and you receive a link to the edited document.
Despite my experience, expertise and awards, I have intentionally priced my rates low to serve sisters who are in my income position. The ones who gave up their careers to be stay-at-home-mums and will need to bear the cost of bigger costs like illustrating and printing.
Does this mean I will do the bare minimum for you?
Absolutely not! Authors have commented that they gained more value than they expected!
Sis, I do this out of passion and I go over and above the time I allocate to each author. It is my duty to ensure I have given feedback on everything possible to help your manuscript become magnificent. I feel truly blessed to become a part of a book's journey to publication. Particularly when it's an Islamic book and will benefit the ummah and beyond insha'Allah.
I highly advise you to save different versions of the story to keep the history of changes you make. You may later change your mind and wish to return to an older version of a sentence or paragraph. If you are sending me a link to your google document, please ensure it has been copied and renamed so you have a back-up copy.
Whilst I will correct some spelling and grammatical errors, I may not catch them all. That's the expertise of a proof-reader and I do not provide proof-reading. This should be done at the very last stage by ‘fresh eyes’ once you are happy with your manuscript/book.
